Welcome to the August 2011 edition of the Place Bulletin. This month we have more news from the department of communities and local government; with Greg Clark revealing plans to simplify the planning system, and Baroness Newlove setting out her three priorities for delivering community action. We also have a piece on Clark’s appointment as the Minister for Cities. Away from Westminster, but not too far, we have news on a new tourist attraction which is to be implemented into the 02 in London (formerly the Millennium Dome), plus we have a piece on a 'comprehensive’ suite of free resources for community enterprises which has been launched by Co-operatives UK. Last but not least, we have more high street related activity, this time it’s from the Labour party who, following on from the Conservative’s appointment of Mary ‘Queen of Shops’ Portas, have launched their own campaign to boost the UK's high streets. This coincides with the introduction of the new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), which is in favour of the high street over out of town retail.
