ATCM was one of the originators of the Institute of Place Management - the largest membership organisation in Europe dedicated to promoting the vitality and viability of town and city centres, members include representatives from the public, private and third sectors.
ATCM are actively engaged with similar organisations in North America, across Europe, South Africa, Australia, Japan, and other countries. ATCM have a close working relationship with UK Government and devolved policy makers in the English regions, Scotland and Northern Ireland, They led the introduction of Business Improvement Districts into the UK and still operate the National BIDs Advisory Service. Their members include those responsible for the management of some 650 town and city centres in the UK and we have a further 550 reciprocal members from the US & Canada.
ATCM are one of the main hosts of the triennial World Congress on Downtown and Town Centre Management. Their regular events programme provides induction programmes for new town centre managers, development advice for those seeking to create effective partnerships, specialist insight into BIDs and current policy topics and also run an annual Summer School aimed at upgrading the skills of practitioners and providing them with detailed examples of good practice. ATCM also run an annual policy conference aimed at widening the debate about town centre management and ensuring the "town centres first" policy remains fixed.
ATCM run an All Party Parliamentary Group in Town Centre Management in Westminster and are developing similar groups in Holyrood and Stormont. In addition ATCM commissions and undertakes research, publishes its own publications to assist those working in the field and contributes regular articles to other publications; senior staff speak widely on the subject of town centre management, BIDs and place management.
